Rainbow Six Siege high ping: how to fix lag in R6
By Leonardo Araújo, CEO of Leaven Marketing · Code verified at checkout on
In Rainbow Six Siege, a few milliseconds decide who sees whom first on a peek. High ping often comes from the wrong data center, not from your internet. If you choose a booster, the code LEAVEN takes 10% off GearUP Booster.

Check which data center you’re on
According to Ubisoft, the game connects you automatically to the data center in your region. To see which one:
- From the main menu, select the gear icon at the top right.
- The Data Center section shows the one you’re connected to.
Ubisoft’s list includes data centers in the US (East, Central, West and South Central), Brazil South, Europe West and North, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Australia. If the one shown is far from you, your ping will rise.
How to change your data center on PC
According to Ubisoft, manual selection only exists on PC, by editing the GameSettings.ini file:
- Close the game.
- Open
Documents\My Games\Rainbow Six - Siege\<your Ubisoft Connect ID>. - Open GameSettings.ini in a text editor and go to the bottom.
- In the line
DataCenterHint=default, replacedefaultwith the data center you want, such asplayfab/eastus. - Save the file and start the game. The new data center shows under the gear icon in the main menu.
To go back to automatic, ping-based selection, set it to default again.
Network fixes that help
- Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, on PC and console.
- Pause downloads during matches, including on other devices.
- Restart the router when ping rises for no reason.
- Test at other times: if ping only rises at night, the problem is likely your provider’s network.
GearUP code LEAVEN for R6 Siege with less lag
If the data center is right, your home network is fine and lag continues, the problem may be the route to the server. In that case a booster can help. According to GearUP, Rainbow Six Siege is on its supported games list, and its routing technology looks for steadier paths to the server. Results depend on your connection; no booster guarantees a fixed ping.
GearUP Booster has a 3-day free trial that turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. If you subscribe, pick the 12-month plan, which has the lowest monthly price, and enter LEAVEN for 10% off. See the GearUP coupon code guide.
